Extension of the Kantonsschule Wohlen

The canton of Aargau is expanding the Kantonsschule Wohlen from 33 to 55 departments, with a long-term capacity of 66 departments envisaged beyond 2050. On a site of approximately 56,000 m², a compact, future-oriented campus will be created to meet the demands of a contemporary secondary school.

A key requirement is the integration of the listed main building by Burkard, Meyer, Steiger and Partner (1988) — featuring structural elements by Santiago Calatrava — into the new overall concept. Remaining existing structures and temporary buildings will be replaced as part of the replanning. A particular challenge is maintaining uninterrupted school operations throughout the construction period, while avoiding temporary facilities as far as possible.

The open competition is being organised by Immobilien Aargau under GATT/WTO procurement rules, with the new campus scheduled for completion in summer 2032.
