Volta Basel — Building Plot 2, Building 2.4
As part of the competition for Baufeld 2 in Volta Nord, the project aims to implement the development plan and the VOLTA NORD regulations through a resource-efficient and energy-conscious commercial building with flexible layouts designed for long-term use.
The proposal introduces a commercial building that occupies the four outer edges of the perimeter with a uniform building depth, forming a clearly defined central courtyard. Positioned along Lysbüchelstrasse and Saint-Louis-Weg, the building responds to the urban structure of the district and establishes representative entrances through generous foyer spaces on both sides.
Four regularly arranged circulation cores organize the upper floors and allow for open, flexible floor plans. The façades follow a continuous grid of slender steel elements and light clinker parapets, expressing the internal structure to the exterior. Structurally, the building is based on a hybrid ceiling system combining steel, timber, and rammed-earth vaults.
