New Residential High-Rise, Rankstrasse

The redevelopment of the BVB bus depot presents a key opportunity to create affordable housing in Basel without consuming additional land, while enabling the unsealing of existing surfaces. Addressing the shortage of cost-efficient housing, the project aims to deliver new apartments supported by rent incentives and efficient layouts that encourage long-term residency.

The proposal seeks to foster social interaction and vertical communities within a high-quality living environment. Sustainability and affordability are intrinsically linked: energy-efficient design and compact use reduce both operating costs and environmental impact, targeting near CO₂-neutral operation.

Given the challenging urban context, the project calls for an architecturally strong solution that can initiate future development while standing as an independent, culturally significant contribution.
