New Mountain Restaurant at Eggishorn (CH)

Aletsch Bahnen AG planned a new gondola to Eggishorn, increasing the transport capacity from 495 to 800 people per hour and enabling both scheduled trips and occasional night rides.

Additionally, a modern multipurpose building with a restaurant was constructed, connected to the mountain station both above and below ground, while maintaining direct access to the surrounding landscape. The basement housed an exhibition or glacier display.

After the previous project was withdrawn, the brief was reopened through a competition to explore creative concepts. The goal was a functional, high-quality building with panoramic views of the Aletsch Glacier and the Bernese and Valais Alps, harmoniously integrated with the mountain station.

Together, the structures formed a striking ensemble that emphasized the alpine character and offered visitors a remarkable summer and winter experience in the Aletsch Arena.
