New Building X, Werkstadt Zürich

The project is based on the principle of reuse and develops a flexible, long-term adaptable building structure with a minimal ecological footprint. The structural system is designed for high loads and allows for a freely divisible spatial layout. Wherever possible, reused steel elements are applied, while highly stressed components such as columns are made from new material.

A clear separation of structure, fit-out, and building services ensures easy adaptability and future reuse. Installations are exposed and remain accessible at all times. The façade follows the same approach: it is composed of reused materials and windows, whose arrangement is determined by availability, resulting in a variable appearance.

The roof combines photovoltaic systems with a biodiverse garden, extending usable open space. Overall, the project creates a robust, circular building that reinterprets industrial structures and uses resources efficiently.
